Using Blogs in the Learning Activities

Nowadays, reading and writing texts online are basic skills that students need to understand as the global community. There are many strategies that teachers can do to engage students’ activities. One of the strategies is by using blogs. Blogs is a tool that makes both teacher and students easy to publish a writing. It provides the opportunity for students and teachers to publish and to share their writing easily. Besides, each of them can give their feedback by giving comments in minutes. It is so useful for students because they can also get comments from an authentic audience.
In blogs, students can write entries and comment on the entries of their peers. Students can also post their journal or diary entries, reflections of the learning activities, their projects in the classroom, commentary on classroom’s recent activities or readings and drafts for other writing that they are doing. Once a student posts an entry, others in the class can respond, provide supportive feedback, and offer additional suggestions or perspectives. By writing and commenting on blogs, students write for real readers. As a result, students focus on clear communication and get immediate feedback on whether they communicate effectively.
Here are some steps that teachers can do when they want to use blogs in the learning activities.
1.      Create their own blog
It means, teacher should create their own blog for students practice. In their blog, teachers can provide links for further reading. With creating a blog, teacher gives class information and links for self-study.
2.      Ask students’ to create their own blog
Students also need to have their own blog for writing practice and reflection on class activities. Students’ blog can also be used as a forum for exchanging ideas on a class-based project.

Agata Nina Puspita's Blog

Hi everyone! This is my blog and welcome to my blog. Okay, first of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Agata Nina Puspita. Now, I am studying in Sanata Dharma University and take English Language Education as my undergraduate program. I also live in Yogyakarta. Before living in Yogyakarta, I lived in Jakarta until I was graduated from junior high school. It means that I was born in Jakarta and I moved to Yogyakarta when I was studying in senior high school. When I was in Senior High School, I was studying in Stella Duce 1. Now, I continue my life in Yogyakarta. Then, to be honest, I have already had blog since I was in senior high, but then I have not posted anything because I still confused about what I should post on my blog. When looking around on people’s blog, there are many ideas that they share in their own blog. They usually share about their interest and when I made this blog, I still confused about what my interest is. For that reason, I become an inactive blogger.
As we have known, I just have one blog and this is the only one that I have. In my opinion, blog is a tool that helps other people to share their opinion, interest, idea and many things. Now, I am in the sixth semester and I join a course which is called Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). This course provides the opportunity to share anything in blog. Every student should have blog and they will share their own interest in their own blog. From this course, I become an active blogger again and I have found about my interest. My interest is about English Education because as we know, I also study in Education Department which is in English Education. Therefore, in my own blog, I will share about anything which is related with English Education. In the future, I will use my blog to share my interest in English and education, such giving comments about some article, making my own article about education. Then, because I am prepared to be a teacher, I will also provide some materials, especially about English course. For that reason, feel free to comment on my blog because I still learn and need suggestions to improve myself. Thank you for coming to my blog.
